Lesson #05 Choosing Your Path

Note: This content was originally writen by Titimowse ("The Professor") and published on the old Cozyacademy.com over 10 years ago, a site that is no longer live and, as a result, the great wealth of knowledge it provides for the adult webmasters community was nearly lost. I recovered this article from an old archive and no part of this work belongs to me. I republished it here for the benefit of the adult community.

You’ve read in Lesson #01 about the profits to be made from selling Internet Porn. You’ve researched how to get started making your first adult website and you’ve gotten the basic tools detailed in Lesson #04. You are ready to build something, anything. You have arrived at the question of what kind of adult site should you create? This lesson summarizes some general types of adult sites and how income is created from them.

Free Site

The most cost efficient adult site to construct is the free adult site. A free site does not mean your page is hosted for free. A free adult site is one where the entry is free to your visitors. You can post image galleries, erotic stories and video clips on a free site. You can pretty much put anything you want on a free site as long as you can pay for the hosting of it, or stay below the maximum amount of allotted webspace a free host gives you. Of course, if you give away too much free content to your surfers, you may get lots of traffic but you won’t make any money from your sponsor links. You will want your free site to tease your surfer. You want to excite your surfer enough with your content as to make them look for more on your advertised sponsor’s website.

Pay Site

A pay site is the most adventurous stride for an adult webmaster. You almost always have to have your own domain name and paid hosting to run one. Free adult hosts will not allow paysites. You will also have to have high-quality graphic and layout design for your pay site. Users will not usually shell out hard-earned money for membership to a mediocre looking site. You will also have to purchase licensed, copyrighted content to justify your membership fee. If you submit image galleries to promote your paysite or have any kind of free tour, you will have to pay for that bandwidth also. If you can afford all these things and promote it properly, a paysite can be the most profitable site. On average, pay site memberships are $30.00 per month. If you had 200 members sign up, you would make $6,000 dollars (before expenses) for just one month. Building a successful paysite with adequate traffic and regular signups is FAR from easy.

TGP Site / Gallery

A TGP site is a Thumbnail Gallery Post. Thumbnail Gallery Post sites list image galleries submitted by other adult webmasters. To operate a TGP you will need to promote your site to surfers and to other webmasters from whom you will need galleries. As access to it is always free, income from a TGP is customarily generated from sponsor affiliations. A TGP can be hosted on either a free or pay host.

You could also build Thumbnail Galleries. These are single pages displaying 10-20 images in thumbnail format. These thumbnails are linked to their full-size versions. The webmaster creates these pages in order to market adult sponsor programs. They layout the thumbs onto the page along with sponsor banners and text links. Many adult webmasters do nothing but build and submit Thumbnail Galleries to TGPs.

Webmaster Service

Perhaps you have a specialized talent that is a valuable commodity to other adult webmasters. Maybe you take great pictures. Maybe you write software or can code a killer script. If so, then you might open a webmaster service, better known as an adult resource. There are many webmaster services including hosts, graphic designers, content providers and software developers.

There are variations of the above mentioned adult site types. List sites are like TGPs, but link to whole websites instead of individual image galleries. You could open a virtual, adult novelty store and sell either yours or a sponsor’s sex toys. Portal sites are “kitchen sink” pages that feature news, advice, erotica, images and such. Portal sites are very good for female traffic.

When choosing which path to take, you will need to ask yourself some questions: What do I want to sell? Who do I want to sell it to? How can I make my site stand out from all the other sex sites on the Internet?

When you have the answers to these questions, then you can truly begin your journey down the path to prosperity.
